United Way Dining Out events raise more than $5K

KEARNEY — 2008 United Way campaign co-chairs Brad Kernick and Gary Straatmann, the Old Chicago staff and volunteers raised $1,756.82 in tips Tuesday to donate toward the 2010 Live United Campaign as part of the United Way’s Dining Out events.
Kernick and Straatmann took first place in the competition.
Each team of co-chairs and servers raised about $5,400 total for the campaign. The campaign is at $445,000 of its $534,000 goal, according to Penny Parker, United Way communications manager.
The United Way campaign supports 21 partner agencies as they provide rent and utility assistance, advocate services for people with special needs, provide shelter for victims of domestic violence, provide hot meals for senior citizens, and mentor youths, among other things.
