 | can receive help immediately. Many people are willing to volunteer to help during a disaster but, unfortunately, don't know where to look to connect to agencies that can utilize their services. If volunteers are able to find an agency that needs them during a disaster, time is wasted while the agency determines the volunteer's skills and decides where they can be the most helpful. Any amount of confusion between potential volunteers and responding agencies costs precious response time and possibly lives.
 Fortunately, a solution has been developed. Volunteer Solutions, sponsored by the United Way of the Kearney Area, is a new tool that will alleviate disaster confusion between volunteers and agencies. With Volunteer Solutions, individuals can register to be volunteers, search for current volunteer opportunities all over the country, participate in trainings available through disaster response agencies, and create a volunteer profile listing their skills and preferences. Creating a volunteer profile connects volunteers with agencies and disaster projects based on their skills, experiences, certifications, and location. Once registered, volunteers are able to view details about available volunteer opportunities and read more about the agencies that are offering them. Volunteers can then choose which agencies they want to contact. Agencies are not able to access a volunteer's contact information unless the volunteer contacts them first. This way volunteers only receive correspondence from agencies that they are interested in connecting with.
